Minimum: You need 12 months of employment in the last 30 months to qualify for ALG I.

🚶 Registration Steps

  1. Register as job-seeking (arbeitssuchend)

    As soon as you know you'll be unemployed - ideally 3 months before

  2. Register as unemployed (arbeitslos)

    On your first day of unemployment, at the Agentur für Arbeit

  3. Submit ALG application

    Online at arbeitsagentur.de or in person

  4. Attend appointments

    Meet with your advisor, discuss job search

Important: Late registration = lost money! Register as job-seeking 3 months before your job ends, or immediately when you learn of termination.
