Everything you need for address registration in Germany

📋 Documents Checklist

Gather these before your appointment:

Tip: The Wohnungsgeberbestätigung is the most important document. Without it, you cannot register. Ask your landlord for it before moving in.

📅 Book Your Appointment

Most cities require an appointment at the Bürgeramt. Book early - slots fill up fast!

Can't find an appointment? Try checking early morning (7-8am) when new slots are released. Some cities have walk-in hours - call to ask.

What Happens at the Appointment

  1. 1
    Check-in

Arrive 5-10 minutes early. Take a number or check in at reception.

  2. 2
    Submit Documents

Hand over your passport, Wohnungsgeberbestätigung, and filled form.

  3. 3
    Get Your Anmeldebestätigung

You'll receive a registration confirmation immediately. Keep this safe!

  4. 4
    Tax ID Arrives by Mail

Your Steuer-ID will be mailed to your new address within 2-4 weeks.

⚠️ Important Deadlines

14-day rule: You must register within 14 days of moving in. Late registration can result in a fine (up to €1000, though usually around €50-100).
Moving within Germany? You need to do Anmeldung at your new address. You don't need to deregister (Abmeldung) from your old address - it happens automatically.
