Everything you need for address registration in Germany
📋 Documents Checklist
Gather these before your appointment:

Valid Passport or ID
Original required. Bring copies too.

Wohnungsgeberbestätigung
Landlord confirmation form. Your landlord must sign this.

Rental Contract
Not always required, but bring it just in case.

Anmeldung Form
Pre-fill online or get it at the office. Often available in English.

Marriage Certificate
Only if registering spouse at same address.

Birth Certificates for Children
Only if registering children.
Tip: The Wohnungsgeberbestätigung is the most important document. Without it, you cannot register. Ask your landlord for it before moving in.
📅 Book Your Appointment
Most cities require an appointment at the Bürgeramt. Book early - slots fill up fast!
Can't find an appointment? Try checking early morning (7-8am) when new slots are released. Some cities have walk-in hours - call to ask.

Check-in
Arrive 5-10 minutes early. Take a number or check in at reception.

Submit Documents
Hand over your passport, Wohnungsgeberbestätigung, and filled form.

Get Your Anmeldebestätigung
You'll receive a registration confirmation immediately. Keep this safe!

Tax ID Arrives by Mail
Your Steuer-ID will be mailed to your new address within 2-4 weeks.
⚠️ Important Deadlines
14-day rule: You must register within 14 days of moving in. Late registration can result in a fine (up to €1000, though usually around €50-100).
Moving within Germany? You need to do Anmeldung at your new address. You don't need to deregister (Abmeldung) from your old address - it happens automatically.
