Michael and Alessio were already working on other projects together when, in 2024, the idea took shape: an ambitious, carefully authored practice bot for SmarterGerman.

Alessio took the lead on design and development; Michael funded the project, tested every version and contributed his teaching expertise. October 2026 — more than two years and countless hours of work later — we’re proud to finally share with you the German Practice Partner.

Standard or Deluxe?1

Both plans include the same activities, with corrections and translations and feedback. Deluxe adds quick audio generation: audio starts in less than a second.

You can turn off quick audio generation if you prefer to use your 4x larger monthly allowance2 for even more standard interactions.

  1. You can change plan or cancel any time. Upgrades start a fresh Deluxe month immediately, you are credited for the unused Standard time. Downgrades take effect at your next renewal.
  2. Deluxe grants 4x more allowance than Standard, but quick audio generation consumes more of your allowance per read-aloud than normal audio generation. On Deluxe you can choose between quicker audio generation or more interactions per month.

Questions

Yes. The free trial lets you explore a selection of scenarios with a very limited number of monthly interactions, over a period of three months. That is enough to experience the quality and variety of the activities, test its features, see how you like the German Practice Partner and decide whether it is a good fit.
Yes. Standard renews at 14,99 EUR/month, Deluxe at 29,99 EUR/month (both VAT incl.). You can change plan or cancel at any time from Settings → Manage subscription inside the Practice Partner.
Standard includes 1200+ interactions each month — around 18 hours of active German practice. These are estimates, not a fixed interaction count or a time limit. How much practice you get depends on the activities and interactions you use.
For Deluxe: Quick audio generation uses significantly more allowance, but Deluxe has a 4x larger monthly allowance, so even with frequent audio generation you will still end up with the same amount of usage as in our Standard plan. You can still turn off quick audio generation in Settings if you prefer to increase the number of interactions.

If you are enrolled in the All Courses Membership, you have access to the Free Trial of the German Practice Partner. But the Standard and Deluxe subscriptions are separate and need to be purchased individually.
Yes. The bot is designed for learners from A1 to C1. At A1, start with simple situations, simple Games and easy Grammar Drills. Even in more complex scenarios, the German Practice Partner tries to adapt to your level, and the translation and correction tools are always there to assist you.
You can dictate your messages instead of typing them, and you can use text-to-speech to listen to the replies. But the German Practice Partner isn't designed for real-time spoken conversation. It is instead designed for relaxed practice, at your own pace. Speaking in real time can quickly become overwhelming, especially for beginners, and even advanced learners often benefit from time to read twice, and think before answering. Alessio strongly recommends to try the dictation feature, but only because it's fun and it's an effective way to practice your spoken German.
Yes. You can use it in your mobile browser, and you can also add it as a mobile app (PWA, Progressive Web App).
Replies and corrections are created in the moment, and despite all the safeguards we put in place, some mistakes can slip through. Report anything that seems wrong so that we can investigate it and fix it.
